International Fare Simplification Webinar:
A "Train the Office" Seminar Program
Last year, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) implemented a
worldwide change to international fare construction and ticketing
procedures. This change, the most significant amendment to international
pricing policy since the introduction of Neutral Units of Construction
(NUCs) in 1989 and the Pricing Unit Concept (PUC) in 2000, represents a
significant liberalization of today's international fare calculation and
ticketing policies.
The changes are the result of IATA's plan to simplify fare construction and
pricing policy to better accommodate the distribution of international
airline tickets via the Internet and to remove those fare calculation
procedures which are obstacles to the fast-growing e-commerce initiatives of
IATA member carriers. The changes respond to and facilitate an increasingly
mature online marketplace, one dominated by electronic ticketing, off-site
call centres, and remote automated ticketing robotics.
Accordingly, ATC will present webinars (web seminars) highlighting the main
components of the revised fare calculation rules. This series of two hour
webinars is designed to assist travel agency and airline personnel in
understanding these important changes and incorporating them into the
participants' international pricing and ticketing skill set.
Key Seminar Topics
Topics which will be discussed include:
- Elimination of International Sales Indicator codes (SITI, SOTO, SOTI, SITO)
- New definitions for place of ticket sale and ticket issuance
- New definitions for round trips and circle trips
- Factors governing online ticket sales and distribution strategy
- Tax implications on point of sale and ticketing
- Proliferation of split ticketing
- Elimination of various minimum fare checks
- Changes to HIP (Higher Intermediate Point) checks
- Changes to limitations on indirect travel
- Changes to the specified routing principle
- Impact of U.S. and Canadian Government Orders
- Importance of historic fares
Who Should Attend
This seminar is highly recommended for frontline sales personnel who
regularly sell and service international air transactions. While not
required, a minimum of one year's experience is suggested to maximize
benefits from this program. This seminar is also recommended for those
individuals who are responsible for the planning and for the development of
strategy for Internet ticket sales or other e-commerce initiatives in the
sale of international air transportation. At the conclusion of this seminar,
participants will be better able to price, ticket, and reissue international
air transportation transactions.
